My 3rd Short Story

Okay, this is my 3rd short story for this class. It's title is Statues:

He’s holding me, he’s squeezing me tightly. It hurts, his touch it busies, it creates wounds that last eternity. His hand is holding mine like he will never let go, his gaze is locked on my face and it will never leave. His eyes threaten, they hurt, they destroy but I can never leave. All I can do is smile away with a heart stabbed with the dagger of despair. Suddenly the sensation I had felt many times before returns to my limbs, the feeling of ice cold water dripping off of my still body. I feel like I’m swimming in a river of ice, it’s almost unbearable but my mouth is frozen in a scream. I can’t move, it’s choking me, ice cold fire streaks my lungs and my head is throbbing with agony. Suddenly I feel the familiar rhythm humming in my chest and I know it’s safe. I take in a deep breath my chest expanding and falling until it too is in a familiar rhythm. For the first time in a month I take my eyes off of his and look to the floor. I drop the silk fabric of my dress I had held so tightly onto for as long as I can remember. I shake off the lingering feeling of exhaustion, I couldn’t be asleep tonight, I had been asleep for so long I had forgotten what it felt like to be awake. My whole body can move freely now except for my hand, still gripped with crushing intensity in his hand. I jerk my body away from his, from Aries, I pull back with all the strength I have but his fingers dig into my veins with searing torture. I can’t breathe, the pain is overwhelming. I pull back inch by inch until I retrieve my hand. I can feel my heartbeat thrash around in my fingertips, there is now a bracelet of raw and bloody skin where he had held it. I look at him with hatred, with fiery contempt in my eyes. I shake my head then take a few steps away. The next thing I knew I was running, I was running towards a man I knew would be on the next floor at the end of the hallway.

I know the way better than the sound of my own heartbeat. I can feel healing warmth, the warmth of knowing I’ll soon be by his side, his arm will wrap and my waist like it was made to fit, like two puzzle pieces. I could already feel his soft skin pressing against mine; we would be together forever without anyone else. I would dance with him for an eternity if not just for tonight. My feet pound against the floor harder than my heartbeat that throbs towards him. Suddenly I arrive. I peer cautiously around the corner. In the full light of the moon, he stands still for now. I run to his frozen figure and jump into his arms. All at once I feel his skin grow cold, I feel the ice of his veins dripping away as if thawing. Suddenly his arms are wrapped around me, the skin growing tender and warm by the second. I turn to look at his eyes, his eyes so penetrating and perfect as if sculpted by angels. I can hear him breathe and soon I am pulled into his soft grasp. I close my eyes as if in heaven and we begin, his powerful legs moving against mine, his arms holding onto me closely. We had danced every night we could together, moving to the music that connects our minds. I spin, my arms moving gracefully like an angel in Heaven. We float in the air like ice skaters, our legs moving together and apart, our bodies connecting and breaking. We move together like paintbrushes, weaving colors of art on the floor. He throws me into the air. I am not worried; I know he will catch me. I do a graceful spin in the air when our bodies connect again. He pulls me close to his heart and we twirl together into the moonlight. We move as water. I knew in my heart I could dance with him forever our minds connect through the rhythm, through the music in our hearts. We are one dancer moving like waves, undulating and perfect. We dance for hours, never ending though our lungs are pounding. He gives me a look when he tosses me into the air again; it is almost over. The ballad of our hearts is coming to an end. With one last graceful turn we come together, our lips brushing. I’m in Heaven. I pull back but there is an odd look in his eyes, a sorrow and despair deeper than the abysses of the night.

I can read his thoughts by looking in his eyes and in a second I am crying. I am sobbing into his chest. Tonight it was his last night, he was going to be taken away by them. But he’s brushing my hair softly and I can tell his eyes are begging and pleading. He wants me to come with him, to leave it all behind. My heart stops I feel cold, leave everything behind? I don’t think I can do it. Would it be right? He reads the sadness in my eyes and holds to me tighter as though to reassure me. I had to run away with him. I look out the window; the sun is peeking up behind the mountains, the light bearing on my heart, a curse. He pulls away from me and holds out his hand. We both knew I would take it. I reach out my arm, our hands about to connect. Suddenly I’m being pulled away rough powerful arms dragging me back to where I came from. I see my lover he’s trying to run, to pull me back but he’s no match. I struggle harder than ever my limbs feeling stiff. Tears run down my cheeks like a waterfall as I fight the powerful man holding onto me. My lover has taken a hold of my hand and pulls but suddenly it’s all over. He has to let go. I can feel his hand become icy and hard around mine, the grip tighter than a snake. I can see the look of despair wash over his face. There were two things he knew, he knew what was happening and he knew we’d never be together. His eyes said a sweet goodbye to mine. Suddenly he’s still and his grip is no longer around my hand. I can see him in the light of the rising sun, I can’t help but cry. I fought with all my might but there was no way Aries was going to let me go.

Soon I was dragged back onto a pedestal; my limbs are becoming stiff once more. He grabs my wrist tightly, and I knew this time he would never let go, I could never escape and I would always be with the one I hated most. All at once he is still but his grip is tighter than I could imagine. Suddenly the same icy feeling wraps around me, coldly embracing me. Tears drip off of my face as it overwhelms me and suddenly I have turned into a statue again and this time forever, my love was gone. All that could race in my mind that was shutting down was his sweet face and suddenly, everything is black as my heart turns back to stone.
